Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation, which is more commonly known as Breast Enlargement, is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast for a number of reasons:Breast Augmentation | Breast Reduction | Breast Lift | Raleigh

  • To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small
  • To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss
  • To balance a difference in breast size
  • As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery

Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty)

Breast reduction is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of large pendulous breasts that are disproportionate to a woman’s body and can cause physical pain.  Technically called reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction improves breast size, shape and the associated conditions of large breasts, which may include:
  • Back, neck and shoulder pain caused by the weight of excess breast tissue
  • Shoulder discomfort and indentation from bra straps that support heavy, pendulous breasts
  • Restricted physical activity due to breast size and the associated discomfort
  • Skin irritation beneath the breast crease
  • Sagging stretched skin and a low breast profile where, when unsupported, the nipple rests below the breast crease
  • An enlarged areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) caused by stretched skin

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Breast Lift RaleighA woman’s breasts may droop as a result of the natural effects of aging, heredity, gravity, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, is performed to return youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged or lost volume and firmness.

Breast lifts rejuvenate the breasts by trimming excess skin and tightening supporting tissues to achieve an uplifted, youthful contour. After a mastopexy, the breasts are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch. Breast lifts can also reposition and reduce the size of the areola – the dark skin surrounding the nipple – which may have stretched or drooped.

Mastopexy is usually performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia and lasts from 1 to 3 hours. Most patients are immediately satisfied with their new breasts and can typically return to work one to two weeks following the procedure.

Breast Reconstruction

Although breast reconstruction can rebuild your breast, the results are highly variable:
  • A reconstructed breast will not have the same sensation and feel as the breast it replaces.
  • Visible incision lines will always be present on the breast, whether from reconstruction or mastectomy.
  • Certain surgical techniques will leave incision lines at the donor site, commonly located in less exposed areas of the body such as the back, abdomen or buttocks.

Male Breast Reduction

Male Breast Reduction | RaleighThe overdevelopment of male breasts, also known as gynecomastia, affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. This condition may be caused by a hormonal imbalance, side effects from drugs, or may occur for no particular reason at all. But despite the cause, the condition is significant and may pose a serious problem in a man’s life.

Men with large or sagging breasts can be both physically and emotionally uncomfortable, often restricting themselves from certain activities because they feel self-conscious about their breast size. Male breast reduction is an excellent way to decrease the size of a man’s breast, helping him feel more comfortable and confident.
